Rubber

The natural rubber industry in Sri Lanka is one of the enduring colonial legacies that is providing sustained socio- economic benefits to the country, even today.

Rubber was introduced around 1870’s and fully distributed around the country on the begin of 1900’s then planted in the wet zone. Plant is scraped and takes it's sap - which is a milky content to make rubber. Intern produces rubber products such as Tires, Foot wear, etc.

Danagala has some well managed rubber fields. Visitors can see the sap being daily collected and distributed to a nearby processing plant.
